Fiesta in Barra de Navidad barrio - Patron Saint Philip of Jesus

Patron Saint Philip of Jesus Fiesta in Barra de Navidad, Jalisco

St. Philip of Jesus was the first Mexican Saint and also first native saint of the American Continent. He worked as a trader in the Philippines where he joined the Franciscans. He died crucified in Japan in 1597. 
St. Philip was canonized in 1862. He is the patron saint of Mexico City and some small towns and barrios like the Barrio in Barra de Navidad.
The celebrations are from February 2nd. till February 5th. The fiesta starts every days early at 5:00 am with fireworks and ringing the church bells. There is also a pilgrimage and floats in the streets of  "el barrio" at 6 pm, the celebration of the mass at 7 pm., and after the mass "toritos", food and music.
Come to "el barrio" in Barra de Navidad and join the celebrations.
