Fiesta in el Barrio in Barra de Navidad - Patron Saint Philip of Jesus Festivities 2012


St. Philip of Jesus was the first Mexican Saint and also first native saint of the American Continent. He worked as a trader in the Philippines where he joined the Franciscans. He died crucified in Japan in 1597. 
St. Philip was canonized in 1862. He is the patron saint of Mexico City and some small towns and barrios like the Barrio in Barra de Navidad.
The celebrations in the barrio to honor Saint Philip of Jesus are from Thursday February 2nd. till Sunday February 5th. in the small chapel located at the corner of O. Indico and Ejidatarios streets, one block from Nueva España.

Program:
Every Day:
  • 5:30 am Fireworks 
  • 6:00 am Mass, Rosary and pilgrimage with the image of Saint Philip of Jesus
  • 5:00 pm  Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament
  • 6:30 pm Pilgrimage and floats along Nueva España street starting at the high school (3 blocks from Andres de Urdaneta) toward the Saint Philip of Jesus Chapel. <= February 3rd,4th and 5th.
  • 7:00 pm Mass
  • 8:00 pm Special Events: Folklorical Dances, Kermess with Antojitos, Lotería (bingo) and music. Fireworks: Toritos and Castillo. Where: In front of the Saint Philip of Jesus chapel and the stage behind the chapel.
Come to el barrio in Barra de Navidad and join the celebrations. Everybody is welcome! 
    Notes:

    • On Thursday Feb. 2nd. there will be also a potluck (Convivio de traje) after the 7:00 pm mass.
